Seniors, scholarships are an important part of your college planning. This site will give you a list of scholarships, their qualifications, and their deadlines.  USE THIS PAGE FIRST before filling out any scholarship.  If you have questions, please ask me.  Keep checking this page and the bulletin board outside the guidance office and in the library for information about available scholarships. Make a list of the scholarships that pertain to your field of study or that you are eligible for. Make sure that you fill all applications in completely and that you attach only what each application asks for. Most of the applications are fillable PDF's but if they are not, download them, save them as PDF's and open them in Adobe Reader DC.  Be sure to read all instructions before returning completed applications. Some applications need to be submitted directly to the organization offering the scholarship and some may be turned in to the guidance office.

Winner High School would like parents and students to know that legitimate companies never guarantee scholarships and that financial aid help and information are available for free. For free financial aid help contact: Your high school counselor, or any college financial aid office. Please think seriously before spending any amount of money on financial aid help. This is money that could be used to help pay for college tuition, books, or living expenses. If you need help determining the legitimacy of a mailing you have received, contact your high school counselor.

CURRENT SCHOLARSHIPS:

The Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student: 
The Elks National Foundation awards 500 four-year scholarships based on academics, leadership, and financial need.  National awards range from $1000 per year to $12,500 per year.  These scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree on a full-time basis.  Male and female students will compete separately.  Students should choose Winner Elks Lodge #2084, Winner, SD 57580 as their sponsoring lodge.  Application and additional information can be found at https://www.elks.org/ENF/appropriations.cfm. The application deadline is November 14, 2022.

The Elks National Foundation Legacy Award:  The Elks National Foundation awards $1.4 million in college scholarships worth $4000 each to a total of 350 children and grandchildren of Elks members.  These scholarships are available for college-bound high school seniors who are children or grandchildren of dues-paying Elks.  Applications are evaluated based on their commitment to the core values of the ENF.   Students should choose Winner Elks Lodge #2084, Winner, SD 57580 as their sponsoring lodge.  Application and additional information can be found at https://www.elks.org/ENF/appropriations.cfm  The application deadline is February 6, 2023. 

The Big Future Scholarship: There are no essays, minimum GPA, test scores, or citizenship requirements. It’s easy to enter scholarship drawings each month. Simply complete one of the steps before the deadline, and you’ll be automatically entered to win $500 and $40,000! Students whose families earn less than $60,000 a year have extra chances at scholarships because they’re eligible for two entries in each drawing.   The applications can be found at https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/pay-for-college/bigfuture-scholarships.  The application deadline is October 31, 2022.  

Coca-Cola Scholars Program: 
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to students in their final year of high school. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 34th class in 2022, the Foundation has provided over 6,600 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $78 million in educational support. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship.  All applicants must have a 3.0 GPA.  To apply, go to https://www.coca-colascholarsfoundation.org/apply/ through October 31, 2022.  

Charles Hellmann Memorial for Future Educators:
This scholarship is in honor of the teachers who strongly influenced the life of Charles Hellmann and will be used to support future educators in South Dakota. A $1000 scholarship will be presented to any qualifying WHS student who is in the top half of their graduating class and is interested in becoming an educator in any area. Applications must include a copy of the official high school transcript and resume. The application deadline is April 1, 2023.

First Fidelity Bank: A minimum of two $500 scholarships will be awarded to two high school seniors for each First Fidelity community. Eligible students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and plan to attend any SD institution of higher learning. Selections will be based upon academics, extracurricular involvement, and need. Scholarships will be paid at the beginning of the 2nd semester. An official transcript including an ACT score and a resume must accompany the application. The application deadline is April 15, 2023.

Harold E. Smith: A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a Winner High School senior planning to obtain a degree from any SD institution of higher learning. Preference will be given to, but restricted to, a student showing a strong aptitude for English, drama, and/or oral interpretation. Applicant must have obtained suitable academic achievement. The application deadline is April 1, 2023.

Ray Neyens Sr. and Grace Neyens: A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a Winner High School senior planning to obtain a degree from any SD institution of higher learning. The applicant should be respectful, of good character, strong in community activities and citizenship, and must have maintained good academic standing and earned at least a 2.5 GPA. A resume and transcript must accompany completed applications. The application deadline is April 15, 2023.

Gordon K. Horgen Memorial Science: This scholarship is meant to honor the legacy of scientific education brought to the students of WHS by Gordon Horgen during his 41 year career as an educator and mentor in the various sciences. Gordon taught at WHS from 1961-2002. He was an outstanding chemistry and physics teacher and was easily recognized wearing his trademark white lab coat. Mr. Horgen was also the first computer teacher at WHS. In 1971, Gordon was named the SD Outstanding Young Educator and in 1987 he was presented the Outstanding Physical Science Teacher Award by the SD Academy of Science. A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a qualifying WHS student who plans to attend a school of higher education and will be pursuing a college degree in a scientific or mathematical field including anyone planning to become a science or math teacher. The scholarship will be paid to the registrar of the college or university at the beginning of the second semester of education. An official copy of the high school transcript, resume, and 2 sealed letters of recommendation from teachers, one of whom is a science or math instructor, to the counselor's office. The application deadline is April 1, 2023.

Don and Fern Jorgensen: A $750 scholarship will be awarded to a qualifying WHS senior, who plans to attend an SD institution of higher learning, and has a cumulative GPA of 2.5. An official copy of the high school transcript, resume, and ACT score must be included with the application. The application deadline is April 1, 2023.

James & Lawrence Neyens: 2 - $1000 scholarships will be awarded to 2 Tripp County high school graduates planning on attending ANY school of higher learning. Applicants should be respectful, of good character, strong in citizenship and community activities, participate in extracurricular activities, and has maintained suitable academic achievement. A resume and ACT score must accompany the application. The application deadline is April 15, 2023.


Antes Family: A $500 scholarship will be presented to a qualifying WHS senior who plans to pursue a career in agriculture. The applicant must plan to attend an SD institution of higher learning and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. The application deadline is April 1, 2023.

Winner Rotary Club & George and Jack Bailey Family: Two $500 scholarships will be presented to qualifying WHS seniors. Selection is based upon academics, extracurricular involvement, and financial need. Complete application with a copy of resume and official transcript needs to be returned in order to be considered. The application deadline is April 15, 2023.


Keith and Geneice Gebhart Family: One $500 scholarship will be presented to a Winner High School senior on behalf of the Gebhart family to stress the importance of continuing education. The application deadline is April 15, 2023.


Mary Still Memorial: Still will be a stranger to most of the students who are awarded this scholarship. Perhaps this short description will help you know and appreciate her. For almost 30 years, Mary had a beauty salon in the basement of her home on Main Street. At the age of 85, she was still doing hair at the Winner Regional Long Term Care Center. School and education were important to her. She liked to see people succeed in their education. For many years she was the only member of the class of 1930 that came to roll call. This scholarship is a gift from her. In July 2017 Mary died at the age of 106. She outlived all her siblings, their spouses, and her friends whose hair she had done. This gift will not only help the recipients further their education but will leave a legacy of what hard work and commitment can accomplish. A minimum of $1000 scholarship(s) will be awarded to a WHS student who plans to attend post-secondary education in any field of their choice. The application deadline is April 1, 2023.

Benson Family Memorial: This scholarship is offered by Robert and Judy Benson to a graduating senior from WHS. Both Bob and Judy have been lifelong residents of Tripp County and are graduates from WHS. Applicant must have a 4.0 non weighted gpa, include a personal resume, and transcript. The application deadline is April 1, 2023.

Dr. Tony and Kay Berg: This permanent endowment to provide a $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a Winner High School student or an employee of Winner Regional Healthcare seeking a career or to advance their career in healthcare. The application will be assessed by need, grades, involvement, or can be given to someone already in the medical field that is trying to advance their degree. The application deadline is April 15, 2023.


Winner American Legion Auxiliary: The candidate for this award must be a 2 year member of the post. Two letters of recommendation need to be included, as well as an essay of not more than 300 words about you and your plans. The application deadline is April 1, 2023.

Oscar and Rose Pravecek Family:
The family of Oscar and Rose Pravecek have established a fund in their honor. They enjoyed a successful lifestyle in the Winner area. This scholarship is for the benefit of deserving graduating seniors from Winner High School under the following terms and conditions. Selection of students shall be based on pursuing an Ag-related field or vocation, be returning to an ag area, or be a participating 4-H member. The recipient shall attend a post-secondary institute of their choice, with either college or vocational training. The application deadline is March 30, 2023.

St. Joseph's Indian School Scholarship: 
St. Joseph's Indian School College scholarship provides funds for the educational needs of Native American students in established institutions of higher learning.  A grade point average of 2.0 is required in order to apply and financial need is used to decide the scholarship.  The application can be found at the following web address      https://www.stjo.org/wpcontent/Media/Images/Page/CollegeScholarships/applications/New%20Student%20Scholarship%20Package.pdf  The application deadline is August 21. 2023. 

Dakota Indian Foundation:  
This scholarship program is established for the further educational advancement of Native American students with priority to those of Lakota, Dakota, Nakota heritage. Students must be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior to be eligible and must have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours. Scholarships are for any approved course of study at an accredited college, university or vocational school. Recipients must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA to remain eligible, and be enrolled full-time each semester. Scholarships will be limited to funding availability.  The application is available on the pdf scholarship page.  The application deadline is August 1, 2023.  

Catching the Dream
:  CTD’s objective is to recognize and reward outstanding student achievement. This supplemental award is intended to help  Native  American  Indian students who are  ¼  or more degree  American  Indian and enrolled members of a U.S. tribe.  “U.S. Tribe” is defined as federally recognized, state-recognized, or terminated.  All awards are based on merit, academic achievement, and ambition.  Students must attend a college or university on a  full­time  basis,  seeking a  BA  or higher. CTD  does not fund students studying out of the country or attending non­accredited institutions, vocational, technical institutions, distance learning, or online programs.  Catching the Dream scholarships are awarded for life.  If you win, you will never have to apply again. However, if you are not selected for a scholarship with CTD, you cannot apply again.  The application can be found on the pdf page.  The application deadline is April 30, 2023.    

Critical Teaching Needs: Provides financial assistance to South Dakota high school graduates who attend an eligible higher education institution in South Dakota and promise to work in a critical teaching need occupation in South Dakota for five years after graduating from a participating postsecondary institution.  Applicant must have a cumulative 2.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale. 
The application deadline is April 15, 2023. 

Dakota Corp: 
This is a big scholarship that pays for tuition and fees for up to 4 years.  Each recipient promises, in writing, to enter a critical need occupation in South Dakota following completion of the program of study.  The number of years a recipient must work in a critical need occupation to fulfill the entire obligation is equal to the sum of the number of years of scholarship received, plus one year.  For example, a four-year scholarship recipient must work five years; a three-year scholarship recipient must work four years; a two-year scholarship recipient must work three years, etc.  If the recipient does not complete his/her commitment, the scholarship converts to a low-interest loan which must be repaid. Rosebud Electric: 
Applications for the $1000 Rosebud Electric Scholarship can be found on the PDF scholarship link.  The scholarship is open to any student whose parents or guardians are members of the Rosebud Electric Cooperative.  Each application must contain the following information:  application form, transcript, copy of ACT scores, short essay outling your high school honors, community and school activities, employment history and future career goals, and a written letter of recommendation by someone not in the education system.  The scholarship must be mailed or delivered to the Rosebud Electric office in Gregory by February 12, 2022.  

 
Missouri River Energy Services: 
This scholarship is open to graduating seniors who attend a high school and reside in a household receiving electric services from a Missouri River Energy Services member utility.  Students must enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited 2 or 4-year college, university, or technical school.  Scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing courses of study for careers related to the electric industry, such as electrical technician, electrical engineer, mathematics, science, energy management, accounting, communications, or economics.  These scholarships may be renewed for up to three additional years.  The scholarship can be found at www.mrenergy.com

Missouri River Energy Services Electrical Linework or power line: 
Electrical line worker or power line scholarships are one-time only and not renewable. Applicants do not need to reside in a household receiving electric service from an MRES member utility. To be eligible, students must enroll no later than fall 2023 in a full-time electrical line worker or power line program at one of seven eligible technical colleges in the Upper Midwest. Eligible technical colleges include the following schools: Bismarck State College, Bismarck, North Dakota; Dakota County Technical College, Rosemount, Minnesota; Minnesota West Community and Technical College, Granite Falls, Minnesota; Minnesota West Community and Technical College, Jackson, Minnesota; Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Wadena, Minnesota; Mitchell Technical College, Mitchell, South Dakota; and Northwest Iowa Community and Technical College, Sheldon, Iowa.  To apply, visit www.mrenergy.com.  The application deadline is March 15, 2023. 

South Dakota Engineering Society Central Chapter:  The Central Chapter offers two $1000 scholarship awards to local students.  The applicant must intend to pursue an engineering degree at either SDSU or SDSMT.  The application can be found on the PDF scholarship page.  The deadline is April 8, 2023. 

SD JCI Senate: 
3 scholarships will be awarded to graduating 2023 high school seniors with the possibility of advancement to a national scholarship.   Students must be planning to attend a technical college or university in the fall of 2023.  The application can be found on the pdf scholarship page.   Applications must be postmarked by Jan. 13, 2023. 

Truman D Picard: 
This scholarship is dedicated to the support of Native American Students pursuing a higher education in Natural Resources.  The applicant must also submit a letter of application, resume, 3 letters of recommendation, transcript and proof of tribal enrollment.  More information and the checklist can be found on the PDF page.  The application deadline is March 10, 2023.

Better Business Bureau Student of Integrity: 
This scholarship is now available for students in South Dakota. These awards are not based on ethnicity, need or gpa but recognize students who exemplify behavior and personal integrity, and who demostrate humilty, courage, compassion, and respect for their peers, teachers, and community.  The application guide with complete instructions and forms can all be accessed at bbb.org/local/0714/bbb-student-of-integrity-awards.html All information must be electronically submitted by March 24, 2023.    

South Dakota Freedom Scholarship: 
This scholarship ranges from $1500 to $5000 and is for students attending a participating institution (BOR school) that has financial need, has maintained a 2.0 gpa, is pursuing a bachelor's degree, will graduate in less than 5 years and will commit in writing to live and work in SD for three years after graduation.  Eligible students will have the opportunity to be considered for the South Dakota Freedom Scholarship through their respective school's online admissions process.


AES Engineers:  AES Engineering is pleased to be able to continue offering scholarships to motivated students to help in the furthering of their education.  Our belief is that achieving a high-grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason, we are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by an evaluation of the essays that are submitted.

Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post-secondary educational facility.  You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.  Students will submit an essay on a topic that appears on the scholarship page of their website https://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.php  The Application deadline is October 8, 2023.  

BBB Student of Integrity:  The BBB Student of Integrity Awards scholarship program is sponsored by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) Foundation. These scholarships were established to honor the memory of Mr. Scott Mecham who served as BBB president from 1991 until January 2006. The Student of Integrity Award scholarships are not based on ethnicity or grade point average. These awards recognize students that personify values, leadership and integrity.  3 students from South Dakota will be selected to earn a $2000 scholarship.  To apply visit https://www.bbb.org/local/0714/bbb-student-of-integrity-awards.html   The application deadline is March 24, 2023.   

Cobell:  This scholarship is for Native American seniors to help cover the costs of earning a degree of higher education.  It provides elevated opportunities for high achieving, community involved Native college students with leadership experience through empowering them with an impactful scholarship experience designed to support their success in higher education.  To apply go to https://cobellscholar.org/  

BankWest:  BankWest provides 21 BankWest Scholarships to high school seniors and undergraduate college students who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Applicant must be a BankWest deposit account holder for a minimum of six months preceding the application deadline.
  • Applicant must be a United States citizen.
  • Applicant must be a high school senior or full-time undergraduate student currently attending an accredited post-high school educational institution.
  • Applicant must not have previously received a BankWest scholarship.
  • conduct a personal interview on March 13 or 14, 2023, if chosen as a finalist

Each BankWest Scholarship has a $1,500 value and may be used to fund tuition at any accredited, post-secondary educational institution. Involvement in community activities, personal character and academic integrity are the three primary areas of consideration in the application process.  BankWest Scholarship applications are available now at https://www.bankwest-sd.bank/personal/scholarships/

Peter DuffyPeter Duffy graduated from Winner High School and Delores Duffy was a graduate of Colome High School.  They strongly supported education and believe in pursuing education beyond high school.  They also think that people should support our local schools. This scholarship is for a student graduating from Winner or Colome who plans to enter a degree program involving a field of study in education or relating to education (i.e. speech therapy, special education, counselor, etc.).  The application can be found on the PDF scholarship link.  The application deadline is April 7, 2023. 


Coaches Against Cancer:  Each year the Coaches Against Cancer and the South Dakota High School Coaches Association
will award scholarships to qualified and deserving high school graduates. The scholarship is
intended to assist qualified graduates to further their education at an accredited institution of
higher education. All applicants must be or have been a high school student-athlete of an accredited South
Dakota high school who has had some type of medical issues or a family member has had some
type of medical issues that may have affected them during their high school career.  Each applicant must show ample evidence that he/she is capable of succeeding at the post-secondary level (transcript, GPA, rank in class, ACT or SAT scores).  The scholarship winners must attend an accredited institution of high education.  The application can be found on the PDF scholarship link.  The application deadline is February 10, 2023. 

Dave Prohl Memorial: 
Each year Burger King and the South Dakota High School Coaches Association will award a
$1000.00 scholarship to a qualified and deserving high school graduate. The scholarship is
intended to assist qualified graduates to further their education at an accredited institution of high
education.  To be eligible the applicant must be a high school senior student-athlete, that has shown ample evidence that  he/she is capable of succeeding at the post-secondary level (transcript, GPA, rank in class, ACT or SAT scores).  The scholarship winners must attend an accredited institution of high education.  The application can be found on the PDF scholarship link.  The application deadline is February 10, 2023. 

SDHSCA Student Trainer/Manager: 
South Dakota High School Coaches Association will award a
$1000.00 scholarship to a qualified and deserving high school graduate who has served time as a student trainer or manager while in high school. The scholarship is intended to assist qualified graduates to further their education at an accredited institution of high education.  To be eligible the applicant must be a high school senior student-athlete, that has shown ample evidence that he/she is capable of succeeding at the post-secondary level (transcript, GPA, rank in class, ACT or SAT scores).  The scholarship winners must attend an accredited institution of high education.  The application can be found on the PDF scholarship link.  The application deadline is February 10, 2023. 

South Dakota High School Coaches Association:  
Each year the South Dakota High School Coaches Association awards $1000.00 scholarships to qualified and deserving high school graduates. The scholarships are intended to assist qualified graduates to further their education at an accredited institution of high education. To be eligible the applicant must be a high school senior student-athlete, that has shown ample evidence that he/she is capable of succeeding at the post-secondary level (transcript, GPA, rank in class, ACT or SAT scores).  The scholarship winners must attend an accredited institution of high education.  The application can be found on the PDF scholarship link.  The application deadline is February 10, 2023. 

Tripp County Water User District - Lawrence Wagner:
Successful applicant will receive a $1000 scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded during the student's first year of college, during the second semester. Applicant must be a child of a member of the Tripp County Water User District. The applicant must attend a SD post-secondary educational facility and have a grade point average of 2.8 or higher. A typed 250-500 word essay on what rural water has done for you or your community must be attached to the completed application. The application must be mailed or dropped off at TCWUD. The application deadline is March 1, 2023.

Tripp County Water User District - Martin & Mary Jorgensen: Successful applicant will receive a $1000 scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded during the student's first year of college, during the second semester. Applicant must be a child of a member of the Tripp County Water User District. The applicant must attend a SD post-secondary educational facility and have a grade point average of 2.8 or higher. A typed 250-500 word essay on what rural water has done for you or your community must be attached to the completed application. The application must be mailed or dropped off at TCWUD. The application deadline is March 1, 2023.


National Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary: The following eight scholarships are available to a child or grandchild of a National Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary Member. Stop in the counselor's office if you want more information or are eligible. The application deadline is March 1, 2022.

Pheasants Forever: 
A $250 scholarship will be awarded directly to the recipient for the fall semester. Applicant must be a Tripp County resident and high school senior who is planning to attend a 2 or 4 year university or technical college. Applications are available on the PDF link. The application deadline is April 15th returned to Counselor's Office.


BUILD DAKOTA: Build Dakota is a full-ride scholarship for students going into high-needs fields and committing to living and working in the state, in their field of study for 3 years. The scholarship supports tuition, fees, books, and other required program expenses in eligible technical programs. High-need fields include Agriculture, automotive, building trades/construction, energy technicians, engineering technicians, healthcare, IT/Computer Information, Precision manufacturing, and Welding. Applications can be found on each technical college's webpage directly or at www.BuildDakotaScholarships.com Application deadline is March 31, 2023.

STATEWIDE AG SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is for 1 student from the senior class with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 Applicant must have an agriculture background. The application will be returned directly to Statewide Ag. Application deadline - April 30, 2023.

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF AMERICA: One $200.00 Scholarship will be presented to a qualifying Senior Girl upon registration at the school of their choice. APPLICANT MUST BE A MEMBER OF IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH. Application deadline - March 15, 2021.

TRIPP COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP:
A $300 scholarship will be presented to a qualifying Tripp County senior. Eligible applicants must be planning to attend a South Dakota School of higher education (to include industrial, technical, or four-year accredited colleges and universities) and a member of the historical society ($5.00 membership fee).  A minimum GPA of 2.5 is also required. Application deadline is - April 1st returned to Tripp County Historical Society, PO Box 287, Winner, SD 57580.

John Forkenbrock Educational: 
This scholarship was established by the Impact Schools of South Dakota, where Mr. Forkenbrock dedicated years of service ensuring funding and quality educational programs for Impact Schools of South Dakota.  This $500 scholarship will recognize a high school senior entering into the education field to be a teacher.  The application deadline is March 4, 2023.  

GoldenWest Telecommunications: 
This is one scholarship for a student residing in the Winner/GoldenWest telephone area and has their service.  The applicant should be active in their school and community and have a good academic record.  The application is on the PDF page and is due by March 15, 2023. 

Day County Coyote Hunt: 
This scholarship is for immediate family members of a current or former SD National Guard soldier with a desire to continue their education.  You must be 19 years of age or younger, graduating from an accredited high school and be planning on attending a college, university or vocational technical school.  The application can be found in the PDF page.  The application deadline is April 1, 2023.  

Yankton Medical Clinic: 
This scholarship is open to high school seniors, located in the Yankton Medical Clinic service area with an interest in pursuing a major in a healthcare field.  They will award five $1000 scholarships to be applied toward the educational costs of attending an institution of higher learning.  The applicant must have a gpa of 3.4 and an ACT of 25, be pursuing a healthcare-related field, and include an essay and references. Okhíčhaŋye  Agriculture:  Akiptan Inc. is a Native American Community Development Financial Institution that supports Native Agriculture producers throughout Indian Country. Akiptan Inc. is committed to supporting the next generation of Native Agriculture Stewards and is pleased to offer our Okhíčhaŋye (O-KHI-CHAN-YE) Scholarship for the Fall 2023 semester. This scholarship prioritizes Native American high school seniors pursuing a degree that will support the Native Agriculture Industry. Twenty (20) scholarships in the amount of $1,000.00 each will be awarded.  The application is on the PDF page.  The application deadline is March 30, 2023.

Cherry-Todd Electric Cooperative:  
Cherry-Todd Electric Cooperative will award one $1,000 scholarship and five $500 scholarships.  To be eligible, you must be a dependent of a member. Recipients will be chosen according to criteria such as SAT/ACT scores, overall grade point averages, work experience, participation in school and community activities, a personal statement of career goals and a written recommendation by a third party. Applications are available on the pdf page and must be completed and returned to Cherry-Todd Electric by Feb. 24, 2023 

Kristie L Storms, Ph.D Memorial:
This is a $500 scholarship in memory of Kristie L Storms. Kristie started her education at Beaver Creek School, a one-room schoolhouse. She graduated from Winner High School. She attended SDSU and after graduating she continued her education at Northern State. She received her doctorate posthumously from Texas Tech in Family and Consumer Science. Preference for this scholarship will be given to applicants that are going into this field of study, but any interest in education will also be accepted. The application deadline is April 1, 2023. 

Pepsi-Cola of Mitchell: 
Pepsi-Cola of Mitchell is proud to recognize the outstanding achievements of high school seniors and college undergraduates through the Pepsi Scholarship Fund. Samuel K. Hoffart:
  This scholarship was established in honor of Sam Hoffart, a hard working, honest, helping, caring and giving man.  He was a third generation farmer, devoting much of his life to helping operate and grow the Hoffart family farm in Dallas, SD.  He loved helping others grow and succeed.  To continue with his fiving spirit, while embracing his passion for farming, his family will be granting $1000 to a high school senior looking to get a start in farming or working toward an agriculture degree.  The applicant does not need to be pursuing higher education.  Whether you are pursuing a degree at a tech school, college, or staying home to help operate the family farm, they want to hear from you.  The application is on the PDF page.  The application deadline is April 15th, 2023.

Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants:  
The A&F Scholarships are available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution. To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay on the topic below. The essay should be between 500 and 1000 words. Your submissions must be sent to us by email at: scholarships@abbottandfenner.com  ;
Topic: Describe your educational career and life goals. Explain your plan for achieving these goals. Include your degree/major, why you selected it, and how this degree/major will help you achieve your goals. The application deadline is June 10, 2023.
   

 Independent Insurance Agents - Serving Others:  This scholarship is for 5 SD residents that will be attending an accredited SD higher learning institution for Fall 2023.  To apply go to www.sdinsure/scholarship.   Applications need to be dropped off at the Insurance Center in Winner with Lana Stickland.  The application deadline is April 15, 2023.  

TC Energy: 
There are 3 different types of scholarships for students to apply for.  You can apply for 1 or all 3 depending on what you qualify for.  The 3 different scholarships are - Indigenous Legacy, Trades students and STEM focused students.  You must click on the link to see if you qualify.  Go to https://www.tcenergy.com/community-giving/scholarships/

Immaculate Conception Catholic Church: 
A $200 scholarship will be presented to a qualifying senior upon registration at the school of their choice.  Applicant must be a member of the church and be active.  The application is on the pdf page.  The application deadline is April 1, 2023.  

South Dakota Cattlemen's Foundation:  
The South Dakota Cattlemen's Foundation was formed to support the long-term viability of the South Dakota beef industry by promoting the nutritional benefits of beef consumption and value of modern production. It is highlighted by its benevolence for the food insecure and support for entrants into the industry.  Hagen-Harvey Scholarship application:  
The Richard Hagen-Minerva Harvey Memorial state scholarship program is for enrolled members of American Indian tribes. Once approved, recipients will be authorized to receive up to four years of funding, depending on year of attendance. Funds are to be used for students attending a public or non-public accredited university, college, or technical college located in South Dakota.  The application is on the PDF page.

CHS River Plains:  
CHS River Plains is committed to strengthening our future leaders
and ensuring a strong future for our youth by awarding up to ten(10) $1,000 scholarships annually to students within the CHS River Plains trade area. Applicant must be a high school senior from the CHS River Plains trade area. We encourage but do not require, the individual to be seeking a degree or certificate in agricultural studies. The parent or guardian must be a current, patronage-eligible customer of CHS River Plains.  The application can be found on the PDF page.

South Dakota CattleWomen Next Generation Scholarship:  
South Dakota Cattlewomen (SDCW) is dedicated to promoting the beef industry in South Dakota. SDCW will award two - $1,000 scholarships to a young person attending or planning to attend an institution of higher learning in the upcoming semester. This scholarship can be used at any accredited university, 2-year or 4-year college or technical school.  The application is on the PDF page and the application deadline is June 1, 2023.

Southern Belle CattleWomen: 
This $500 scholarship is available to any Tripp or Todd County high school graduate, who plans to attend a school of higher education, in order to pursue a career in an agricultural-related field.  This scholarship is to be used for the spring semester.  The application is on the PDF page.  The application deadline is April 14, 2023.

South Dakota Telecommunications: 
3 scholarships - 2 for $2000 and 1 for $1500 are available for a 2023 graduate that will be attending an accredited technical college or post-secondary higher education institution in SD and majoring in a degree or field of study that is useful in the telecommuncations or broadband industry.  Majors eligible for this scholarship can be found at https://sdtaonline.com/sdta_scholarships.php. ; The application is on the pdf page.  The application deadline is June 15, 2023.    

Tripp/Mellette County Farm Bureau: 
 Tripp/Mellette Co Farm Bureau is dedicated to agriculture in our area. This scholarship is to celebrate youth that have a passion for agriculture and our rural communities. We want to award scholarships to youth who are planning on returning to the area. Applicants pursuing a career in agriculture will be given preference, but these are open also to any who plan to return to our rural area. - 2 $500 scholarships will be given.  The application is on the pdf page.  The application deadline is April 15, 2023. 

The Bellator Titans Motorcycle Club: 
The Bellator Titans Motorcylce club is excited to announce the availability of a scholarship to an applicant who is in need of financial assistance.  Applicants need to plan to attend an in-state post secondary school in order to apply, and must be hardworking and motivated to succeed.  The application is on the pdf page.  The application has been extended to March 31, 2023.

WH Sturges:  
This is 2 - $900 scholarships for a student going into any field of medicine. Applicants for this scholarship must be a senior or an alumnus of Winner School District and be planning to go into a health-related field of study. Applicant must attend an SD Institute of Higher Education including a technical school. The applications are available by clicking on the PDF link at the top of the page. The application deadline is May 2, 2023.  

Winner Regional Health and Wellness Foundation: 
This scholarship is for any high school senior in Winner Regional Healthcare Center's service area, who is planning to pursue higher education in a medical or healthcare field.  There will be up to 2 - $2500 scholarships awarded.  All applications must be typed. The application is on the PDF page.  Applications must be postmarked by April 26, 2023 and sent to:

PEO: 
This scholarship is open to high school girls.  Preference may be given to girls whom have a family member in a PEO chapter, but it is not a requisite for the award.  The application is on the PDF page.  The application deadline is April 1st, 2023.  

Winner Music Boosters: 
This is a $250 scholarship that will be awarded to a senior at WHS who has demonstrated an interest in and a dedication to music.  Applicant must have been actively involved in the music department for at least 2 years of high school and have a 3.0 gpa.  An essay on how music has affected his/her life and what his/her biggest music accomplishment has been must be included.  The application is on the pdf page.  The application deadline is May 1, 2023  

Oscar and Rose Pravecek Music:

ESA Beta Alpha: 
ESA Beta Alpha is offering a scholarship for a WHS senior planning to pursue a post-high school education.  The applicant must have a 2.0 gpa and have financial needs.  Application requirements are listed on the application and attaching additional information is discouraged.  The application can be found on the pdf page.  The application deadline is April 27. 2023.  

Winner VFW Auxiliary Post 4674: 
One $1000 scholarship will be presented to one qualifying high school senior upon registration at the school of their choice.  Student must have a cumulative gpa of not less than 2.5 and be a child, grandchild, or sister/brother of a veteran.  Any veteran who has gone back to high school and is graduating may also apply.  The application can be found on the PDF page.  The application deadline is May 1, 2023.  

Dallas Cares:
Dallas Cares is awarding a $500 scholarship to a girl in the Gregory/Tripp County area. Any high school senior interested can submit a 1-page double-spaced essay on the value of volunteering along with a transcript and the cover page found on the PDF scholarship page. The application deadline is May 10, 2023.

Town and Country Women's Club:
The applicant must be a graduating senior and have maintained a 2.5 gpa or greater. The student must have been accepted at a college or technical school as a full-time student. They should reflect academic achievement as well as community involvement. Applications are available by clicking the PDF link at the top of the page. The application deadline is April 23, 2023.

Order of the Eastern Star & Mason's: 
This is a $500 scholarship for all Tripp County High School seniors.  The application is on the pdf link and must include a transcript, resume and completed application form.  The application deadline is April 15, 2023.

Anne Pinter FFA:
A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a qualifying high school senior who is a current member and who is entering an agricultural field of study at a school of higher education.  The application is on the PDF page and the application deadline has been extended to May 4, 2023.   


 

The following scholarships are offered on behalf of the Sioux Falls Community Foundation and can be applied for online by visiting the following link - www.sfacf.org. Most scholarships are due by March 15, 2023.  

 Cogley-Buffington Certified Property and Casualty Underwriters Fund: 
This award is for seniors that plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university, who demonstrate financial need, have a gpa of 3.5 or higher, have participated in extracurricular activities, and demonstrate an interest in business and it's a role in society.   This is worth $1000.   

Fool Solider:  This scholarship is open to descendants of the Fool Soliders.  Eligible applicants must be able to prove their ancestry, have a 2.0 gpa or higher, be planning to attend an accredited college, university or technical school, and have financial need.  This is a $5000 scholarship.  

Fred and Marie Christopherson:  Applicants who plan to attend a four-year college or university in South Dakota, have a minimum gpa of 3.9 after seven semesters, and have an ACT score of 28 or higher.  $1750 renewable scholarship.

Joe Foss "An American Hero":  This is for a senior that will be attending an accredited college, university, or technical school, has a gpa of 3.5 or better, and a minimum ACT score of 21, and demonstrates characteristics of an American patriot.  Multiple scholarships will be awarded.  This is a $1000 scholarship.  

Kimberly Rose Means - Native American Council of Tribes:  This is for enrolled members of a South Dakota Native American tribe.  Applicants must plan to attend an accredited college, university, or vocational school, have a cumulative gpa of 2.0 or higher, have participated in school and community activities, and have the desire and ability to accomplish their goals.  This is a $900 scholarship.

Osmann Family Native American:  This is a renewable award for high school seniors who are enrolled members of a Native American tribe and who will be attending a South Dakota university or vocational/technical school in Sioux Falls, Watertown, Mitchell or Rapid City, has a 2.5 gpa or higher after 7 semesters of high school.   This is a $1,250 renewable scholarship.  

 
Siouxland Chapter CFMA:  This scholarship is a $750 scholarship for graduating seniors who wish to pursue an academic or technical degree in construction.  Applicants must attend an institution that is located within 100 miles of Sioux Falls (MTC, LATC, STC).
